BUTTERMILK PIE

December 26, 2017 by Debbie 1 Comment

Please don’t look at the name of this recipe and keep scrolling! You will definitely be missing out on a fantastic dessert. Yes, it’s a Southern thing, but it should be a worldwide thing.

INGREDIENTS
2 pie shells
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
4 cups sugar
6 tablespoons flour
6 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons lemon juice

nutmeg

In the bowl of a stand mixer, (you could do this with a hand mixer as well), mix the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs and flour. Mix until thoroughly blended.
Add the remaining ingredients and mix until well combined.
Divide the mixture evenly between the two pie shells. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for one hour and 15 minutes. Place a baking sheet on the bottom shelf to catch any overflow while it is cooking. Don’t ask me how I know to do this.

Allow the pies to sit for at least one hour before serving.

This is one of the beloved’s favorites and was requested for Christmas this year. You can easily cut the recipe in half and only make one pie, but why would you want to??

My absolute all time favorite pie!! Put a piece on top of your head and your tongue will beat your brain to death trying to get to it.
