SLOPPY JOE SAUCE

October 31, 2016 by Debbie Leave a Comment

If you are like me, you grew up eating Sloppy Joe’s. Usually, they were made with that canned sauce that, as kids, we thought was heavenly! If you loved Sloppy Joe’s then, or if you still love them now, this is a must try recipe. You will never buy the stuff in a can again!

INGREDIENTS
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup onion, minced
1 cup bell pepper, minced
2 stalks celery, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1/4 cup mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
3/8 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoon vinegar, optional
Begin by browning the ground beef with the onion, pepper, celery, and garlic.
Add the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire Sauce and combine.
Next, add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
I forgot to make a picture of it all mixed up and simmering. I’m blaming that on the smell that was taking over my house! Oh my!
I did, however, get a couple of pictures of what it looked like in the canning jars. Yes, I canned it to add to my meals in jars shelf. I only got 3 pints from this, so the next time I make it, I will double the recipe.
When the mister came home and smelled the wonderful aromas, he asked what I was canning. I told him sloppy joe’s and he exclaimed, “I LOVE SLOPPY JOES!” I think he will be a happy camper.
