CAJUN SPICE MIX

July 21, 2016 by Debbie Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had purchased a planner to try and get our lives a little more organized. One of the things I really wanted to do was weekly meal planning. I have always gotten up in the mornings and thought, “what are we going to have for dinner tonight?” Definitely, not effecient! Because of that I was always running to the store to pick up the ingredients I didn’t have on hand. Invariably, I always walked out of the store with way more than I went to get. What a waste of time, money, and gas!

I did it! This week I planned all our meals and I’ve stuck to it! When I added a meal to the planner, I made a shopping list of the ingredients I needed and made ONE trip to the store. I am so proud of myself. *insert big grin*
That is, until today. On the menu for tonight is jambalaya. I thought I had cajun seasoning but I didn’t. My first thought was to call the mister and have him stop by the store since he was out anyway. My second thought was to stick to my plan and make my own! It is so easy and doesn’t have any preservatives or unnecessary ingredients in it.

In a small container or bowl, mix the following:

2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon oregano, dried
1 tablespoon thyme, dried
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tablespoon sea salt
2 1/3 tablespoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

That’s all there is to it!
